Welcome!

Mercer Arboretum & Botanical Gardens

i have a confession, on friday i played hookie from work. it was such bliss. hey its spring break what do you expect? my friend richard had the wildly brilliant idea of going up north to Mercer Arboretum to smell the roses...literally. it was a perfect spring day, just before the first day of spring and before the dumb cold front blew in saturday. Anyway, here are a few pictures from the excursion. A lot of the Botanical part of the park was still struggling from the harsh winter Texas had this past season. However, we managed to see a few beautiful blooms, a rabbit and a lot of turtles!

upon entry into the park...

japanese maple, one of my favorites...
From Mercer Park

the super tall cypress tress, they're everywhere, so majestic

Matsuyoi, a grafted japanese maple with yellow leaves instead of the typical deep reds, so beautiful...

beautiful flowers, the name is escaping me right now (blame it on the pregnancy)...these were blooming everywhere, in reds and pinks...i think it starts with a C...i believe the name is pretty obvious and i'm going to feel like an idiot when someone tells me what it is....

i honestly dont know the name of these, but i called them fairy flowers. they are super tiny

bluebonnets, of course!

the most amazing and vibrant succulent-type plant thing i have ever seen. it looks like it should be found in the ocean. i could not get enough of it, probably should have looked for the name of it...

these were so pretty and they were surrounding the above green succulent thing, the contrast of orange on lime green was amazing...

of course redbuds, so cheerful...

i dont know/can't remember what tree this was, but it was dancing for us. the sunlight looked perfect through the branches...

the day lilly aka "little fat dazzler" haha

lily pond with no koi, but one turtle

ah the infamous tulip tree, or Liriodendron to you plant folks. i'm obsessed with this tree, it looks like pink butterflies have landed on the tips of the branches. it blooms these flowers before its leaves. during the rest of the years its kind of a duddard but when it blooms it is spectacular.

the blooms up close and personal

can't remember the name of this flower but it smelled twice as good as gardenia.

good morning
